Looking at his photos, he knew something had to shift. Despite his consistent gym presence, the results weren&#8217;t matching his efforts.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What Sparked Matt\u2019s Sustainable Fat Loss Journey<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matt&#8217;s fitness journey began long before his Bali revelation.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At his heaviest in high school, he weighed nearly 300 pounds. By age 25, he&#8217;d lost 110 pounds and maintained a weight between 180-190 pounds. He even reached 168 pounds at one point, but as he describes it, he was &#8220;skinny fat&#8221;\u2014the scale showed progress, but the mirror told a different story.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And despite his regular gym attendance, Matt&#8217;s workouts lacked structure. <\/span><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;I was your typical gym bro. Do Bis, Chest and Traps, and you&#8217;re good was my mindset.&#8221;\u00a0<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The frustration with plateaued progress set the stage for a change in approach\u2014one that would finally align his efforts with his goals.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After interviewing several coaches, he found Born Fitness offered something different\u2014a genuine investment in his success rather than treating him as just another client.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>&#8220;I essentially did a Carrie Underwood and said, &#8216;Take the wheel!'&#8221;<\/em> Matt recalls.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>How Coaching Helped Matt Break Through His Fat Loss Plateau<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">One of the first things Matt committed to was tracking his food intake using MyFitnessPal.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We didn\u2019t take a restrictive approach or eliminate entire food groups. Instead, the focus was on consistently hitting calorie and protein targets each day. That\u2019s it. While you\u2019ll likely need to adjust your calorie goals throughout the fat loss process, this simple approach helps you avoid overwhelm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And rather than aiming for perfection, we emphasized awareness. For Matt, that meant getting a better sense of portion sizes and being more intentional with meals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What about his workouts?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Matt came in with a classic \u201cgym bro\u201d approach\u2014chest day, arm day, repeat. What he didn\u2019t have was a structured, progressive plan.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We changed that.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each 4-6 weeks, Matt followed a fresh training phase. Every plan was customized, but the consistent themes were:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Full-body or upper lower split sessions 3\u20134x per week to train more muscle more often<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Progressive overload (increase weight, reps, or control over time)<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Conditioning finishers (sleds, circuits, intervals) to boost calorie burn without adding hours of cardio<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\n<p><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This combination gave Matt the right amount of challenge without overtraining. He wasn\u2019t left guessing what to do\u2014and that structure freed him to focus on execution.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The result: For the first time, nutrition and training worked together, instead of against him. His waist measurement decreased from 100.3 cm to 79.4 cm. That\u2019s more than 30 pounds of fat loss and a full wardrobe transformation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">His strength skyrocketed\u2014going from zero to three unassisted pull-ups and increasing his incline bench weights by over 60%.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the numbers only tell part of Matt&#8217;s story.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For the first time, he&#8217;s shopping in the small size section\u2014a milestone he never imagined possible. <em>&#8220;I don&#8217;t say small in a way that means that I lost muscle.
