It was designed to be an appetizer of healthy information, but \u2014 for me \u2014 it was a main course of facepalm.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Here\u2019s a taste of their \u201cwisdom.\u201d The primary dietary culprits they listed \u2014 as quoted from the article \u2014 are:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAlcohol, preserved meats, processed snacks, and energy drinks were the four major culprits that dietitians said can derail healthy eating.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnd while we all know it\u2019s not healthy to binge on beer and hot dogs, the experts said you\u2019d be surprised how these things sneak onto plates, even of \u201chealthy\u201d people, from deli meats in your lunch sandwich to a packaged granola bar or a whisky or glasses of wine to wind down.\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div style=\"width: 640px;\" class=\"wp-video\"><video class=\"wp-video-shortcode\" id=\"video-5410-1\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" preload=\"metadata\" controls=\"controls\"><source type=\"video\/mp4\" src=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/Qe5oD5aXjEbKw\/giphy.mp4?_=1\" \/><a href=\"https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/Qe5oD5aXjEbKw\/giphy.mp4\">https:\/\/media.giphy.com\/media\/Qe5oD5aXjEbKw\/giphy.mp4<\/a><\/video><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>In other news, apparently, being a regular human is now, also, unhealthy.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Instead of hating these foods, how about we try something different? Before I go on, let me make something clear: I know how these articles work, so let\u2019s remove all of the typical caveats: it\u2019s an article, they had to answer questions selected by the author, who knows how much of the answer was cut-off, and so forth hand. All of these are valid complaints. But, here\u2019s my issue\u2026<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The article is not the exception to the rule. It\u2019s your reality when it comes to advice on improving your health. Diet articles fundamentally create fear and restriction around <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">almost everything<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I once read an article trying to convince you that <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bornfitness.com\/now-kale-bad\/\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">kale is bad for you<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and I lost my mind trying to digest the logic. The crazy part? I wrote my rebuttal to the post 7 years ago. We\u2019re not making progress, and we\u2019re definitely not learning from our mistakes. We\u2019re spouting the same stupid diet advice and food hate that has led to the same underwhelming results for so many people.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">When will we learn that we don\u2019t need another article on what to avoid?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-5415\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bornfitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Foods-Hate.png\" alt=\"Food Hate Article Headlines\" width=\"800\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bornfitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Foods-Hate.png 800w, https:\/\/www.bornfitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Foods-Hate-300x150.png 300w, https:\/\/www.bornfitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Foods-Hate-768x384.png 768w, https:\/\/www.bornfitness.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/02\/Foods-Hate-700x350.png 700w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The overwhelming majority of people know that too much fast food, too much alcohol, and a diet of no fruits and vegetables isn\u2019t a recipe for health. But, for so many people, they don\u2019t have access to all the best foods, they want to eat at restaurants, and \u2014 occasionally \u2014 they don\u2019t want to feel guilty about having a drink. And, I don\u2019t think that\u2019s too much to ask.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You know what I want to see? Diet experts finally provide guidelines that meet people where they are and include the foods we all eat into plans for maintaining good health, building muscle, supporting weight loss, or whatever the goal might be.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This can be your reality. I know because we\u2019ve been doing it for thousands of people in our <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bornfitness.com\/coaching\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">online coaching program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for more than 12 years. I love it when clients come in and say something like, \u201cI\u2019ve been dreading you taking away my white rice,\u201d or \u201cI\u2019m going to miss dessert.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nope, there\u2019s nothing to dread and nothing is being taken away.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Here\u2019s reality:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The more diet rules you have, the more likely you are to fail.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The more you restrict foods, the more likely you are to fail.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The more you create \u201cblack and white\u201d thinking, the more likely you are to fail.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The more you blame one food (carbs, fat, dairy, gluten), the more likely you are to fail.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><strong>The more you try to blame one behavior (you must eat breakfast, you must intermittent fast, you can\u2019t eat after 7 pm), the more likely you are to fail.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Diet is complex, but the structure of a plan should be simple. Create a plan that works for your schedule, maintain some of the foods you love, eat 80% of the good stuff you know is healthy (protein, fruit, vegetables, fibrous carbs, healthy fats like avocados and nuts), and then make adjustments as you see progress or stall.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have an amazing job. I get to help people be healthier and change their lives. But, if we want people to change their lives, we need to help them design realistic lifestyles; and that doesn\u2019t happen by offering effective but <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">impractical<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> plans that no one would ever willingly select.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As I wrote back in 2014:<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><i>Are you trying to help people or just earn more page views?<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><i>I hope the traffic was worth it because each click of this page led to another person frustrated and confused about what they are supposed to eat and what to believe.<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong><i>Let\u2019s do something about it and provide diet advice that will empower rather than terrify and confuse.<\/i><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I read an article the other day about the foods dietitians hate.
